Welcome to OAA Girls' Flag Football

Introducing girls' flag football for the first time in 2025!  Teams are split into three age ranges to include 3rd/4th grade, 5th/6th grade, and 7th/8th grade.  As the girls progress, the game will get much faster, but this is a developmental league as girls' flag football continues to move to the forefront of MSHSL sanctioned sports at the high school level.  Practices will begin in early August, with the season ending by mid-October.  The cost is $140 for early bird pricing through 7/1 and regular registration of $150 thereafter. Registration will close on July 14th. Registrations after the registration close date will be $170, with team assignment at the discretion of the League Director.

When signing your child up, please indicate the grade that your child will be going into after the summer.  This determines if they will be in the 3rd/4th grade, 5th/6th grade, or 7th/8th grade league.

Please note that mouth guards are required must be purchased separately.

Volunteers

The game of football is a fun time to watch your kids play and have fun. This is only possible if parents are willing to volunteer to help with the teams. The best thing that you can do to ensure that your child and the children of the flag football program can insure a quality program is to get involved and volunteer to be a coach. If this is something that interest you and you would like to volunteer to coach or to find out more about it please contact the League Director.

Equipment

Required Optional
Mouthguard Cleats (Rubber or Plastic)
Soft Shell Helmet

Cleats are recommended, but as noted above, not required.  It is suggested that each child have a water source available at all games/practices.  Equipment to include footballs and flags will be provided, with each team having an equipment bag.

Practices and Games

Practices will be at coach's discretion.  Prior to games commencing, coaches can schedule up to three practices per week.  Once games begin, coaches can schedule up to two practices per week.  Games will be doubleheaders on Sundays with scheduling set up through the Metro East Youth Football League.

Rules

Rules are still in development with the MEYFL and will be posted here soon.

Parent Expectations

This is a developmental league, while we encourage competition, we want to ensure that the girls are learning and understand the fundamentals of the game of flag football and continue to enhance their skills through our program.  Some of the questions that we've received and want to answer in a FAQ style format.

Q: How is the league set up?

A: Each team for OAA will be a maximum of 10 players to provide optimal playing time for each player.  The games are 5v5 and are non-contact.  Games will be played in a 60 minute time frame with a 5-10 minute half time in the middle of the game.

Q: What does registration entail?

A: Each participant will receive a customized jersey (Name and Number) and shorts with their selected number.  Coaches will receive a coach jersey similar to the players and a hooded sweatshirt as a thank you for volunteering their time.

Q: What equipment will be provided by OAA?

A: Each team will have an equipment bag, which will include, but is not limited to, a first aid kit, 5 footballs, a dry erase board and markers, team flags and belts, pylon and disc cones, a ball pump and inflation needles.

Q: Where will games be played?

A: Game locations are determined by the MEYFL during scheduling.  All games in a day will be played at the same location.  Games are tentatively scheduled to be on Sundays.

Coaches Code of Ethics

•I hereby pledge to live up to the following Coaches’ Code of Ethics:

•I will do my best to provide a safe playing situation for my players.
•I will promise to review and practice the basic first aid principles needed to treat injuries of my players.
•I will do my best to organize practices that are fun and challenging for all my players.
•I will provide a sports environment for my team that is free of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, and I will refrain from their use at all youth sports events, and I will work with and remind team parents to ensure this environment exists.
•I will be knowledgeable in the rules of each sport that I coach, and I will teach these rules to my players.
•I will use those coaching techniques appropriate for each of the skills that I teach.
•I will remember that I am a youth sports coach, and that the game is for children and not adults.
