Welcome to the OAA Flag Football page. We received a lot of feedback from our most recent season and want to ensure that we implement many of the issues that were identified.
Rulebook has been fully vetted and has been redone.
Code of Conduct will be provided for all players during sign-up. Please ensure this is understood and can be referenced on this page as well.
Skill based registration. This will allow teams to be more even.
Registration will now include both a jersey top and shorts for each player.
Friend/coach requests are more likely to be granted for early registrants. We will do our best to grant all requests, but with skill based registration, we want to ensure that our players have the best experience possible.
Rings will return for our first place team.
Registrations for our fall 2025 season have closed.

Learning physical skills. Young athletes learn both fundamental motor skills (e.g., running, jumping and hopping) and sport-specific skills (e.g., how to throw or catch a football) that allow them to stay active.
Appreciation of fitness. Two of the motives for participation identified by children is “to get exercise” and “stay in shape” (Ewing & Seefeldt; 1989)
Sense of belonging. Another strong motive of participation is social interaction. Sports can provide peer interaction through both teammates and healthy competition (see Weiss & Stuntz, 2004 for a review of the literature).
Acquiring sport skills for leisure. Learning the fundamental motor skills through sport (e.g., proprioception, coordination) can aid in skill development, but can also be transferred to other sports and leisure activities, promoting increased participation and involvement.
Flag football gives every child the chance to be an impact player. Kids of all sizes are throwing and catching the ball, making interceptions, pulling flags on defense and running for 50-yard touchdowns – all while having a good time, making friends, getting exercise and learning.
According to the Sports and Fitness Industry Association, nationwide in 2013, over 2.5 million youth participated in flag football – just shy of the numbers playing tackle and touch football.
A fun and exciting sport that is played year around, kids learn football skills while understanding the importance of maintaining good form and footwork. they'll learn the fundamentals of the sport and compete with other players who love the game as much as they do.
Flag football is a non-contact sport, and provides a safe activity for kids who love football.
Join us. There's a reason our numbers are growing!
OAA Flag Football is the place where kids can get a taste of football without the need for full pads. The teams are comprised of a Kindergarten league and a 1st /2nd grade league. The fundamentals of the game will be learned and reinforced at this level. Practices start in Early-August for all grades, and finishing prior to Halloween. The cost is $100 for early bird pricing and is $125 on 6/13 and thereafter. Registration will close on July 14th. Registrations after the registration close date will be $150.
When signing your child up, please indicate the grade that your child will be going into after the summer. This determines if they will be in the kindergarten league or the 1st/2nd grade league. Additionally, if your child is going into kindergarten, but would like for them to play with the 1st/2nd grade teams, that option will be available in the registration.
Beginning in 3rd grade, players can advance to tackle football - where full contact requires a full set of football pads, helmets and uniforms. Please see the OAA Football program for more details.
Please note that mouth guards are required and must be purchased separately.
Great news! Girls' flag football will start this fall. Girls' flag football includes three different levels (Grades 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8) and will be organized through the Metro East Youth Football League. If you have any questions, please reach out to the OAA Flag Football Director
The game of football is a fun time to watch your kids play and have fun. This is only possible if parents are willing to volunteer to help with the teams. The best thing that you can do to ensure that your child and the children of the flag football program can insure a quality program is to get involved and volunteer to be a coach. If this is something that interest you and you would like to volunteer to coach or to find out more about it please contact the director of your league.

| Athletic Supporter | |

Cleats are recommended, but as noted above, not required. It is suggested that each child have a water source available at all games/practices. Equipment to include footballs and flags will be provided, with each team having an equipment bag.
All games for the Kindergarten program will be played on the day set by the league they will be in, depending on if there are enough kids to make a kindergarten team. Practice days will be at the discretion of the coach. Only two practices and one game per week for this level. Three practices per week are allowed before the games start. If there are not enough kindergarten kids they will be placed on a team with the 1st/2nd graders. This has been done in the past and has worked out fine. The kindergarten kids do well playing with the older group.
Each 1st/2nd Grade team will have at least one Wednesday night game, with the majority of games taking place on Saturday mornings, but is subject to change year to year based on the availability of the teams that we can schedule. They will be allowed two practice days outside of game days, They will be allowed three practices a week prior to the start of games. Practices days are at the discretion of the coach.
