2017 Soccer Jamboree information

The Annual soccer jamboree is approaching and details/information will be posted here for reference.

DATE:   September 16, 2017

WHERE:   Walton Park soccer fields

TIME:   9:00am - 3:00pm    Game and skill times vary for each team. The Award time is for all teams in the league per schedule. Please refer to jamboree schedule of your league posted on each main league soccer page.

SKILLS:

Longest kick: players will kick a soccer ball down a lane lined by cones and the distance is recorded.

Timed dribbling exercise: players will kick a soccer ball around cones placed in a zigzag pattern and the time will be recorded when finished.

U5 will participate in the longest kick skill. U7 and U8 will participate in both skills.

U5 league will receive medals for the top boy winner in the league and the top girl winner in the league.

U7 will receive medals for the top 2 boys and the top 2 girls from each skill. This league consists of 9 teams,  doubling the other leagues.

U8 boys/U8 girls will receive medals for the top winner of each skill.

Field layouts will be posted at the jamboree to better assist everyone in locating each field and skills area. There is a total of 4 fields, each will have a numbered sign. There will be a walkway straight down the center of the fields. Chairs can be put around the fields to watch the games. The skills area will have 4 numbered lanes (a 5th lane being used for a few skills) located on the football field just across the paved pathway.

The main building (lot off of 15th st) will have a field layout to view, and I will be set up in that areas as well. I will have extra equipment if needed and the picture order forms available for everyone. Just past the building, hill area, is where the medals will be awarded. Please be to that area at your designated time. There will be a sign labeled Awards Area.  After your medals are given, your coaches can advise you on trophy handout.  Any space throughout the entire area can be used for your team to hand out trophies. Please do not use the awards area so we can avoid time conflicts with the next league receiving medals.

You may have a lot of walking due to the size of the area. The last two years, the fields were wet from rain and do not dry out completely (if at all depending on weather) in time we are using them.  Plan accordingly.

Tartan boosters will be running concessions in the pavilion. I do not organize the food served or anything concession related.

The fun-flatables event is also taking place Sept 16. They will be set up on the area visible by both 15th st and Hadley ave N. They are huge and hard to miss! If time allows, head over there to have fun! Just please be at the location your team is assigned prior to start time.

The jamboree does not have the option to be rescheduled if cancelled.  Walton has limited availability and we wouldn't have a make up date until after the season ends. The event will take place rain or shine! If you email the morning of and do not receive a response, assume the jamboree is still on. Unless the weather is severe, or lightening is present, we will plan on going forward.

Martha Lenton will be assisting at the jamboree and her contact info is available on the U8 boys -team Lenton page. Please email her also if you have any questions.

U7 General Information

  • OAA U7 soccer league is a fall season recreation sport.
  • Game play is 4 v 4, with no goalie.
  • One practice per week beginning in mid August. Each team practice night will be chosen by the coach.
  • Volunteering to coach your childs team allows you to choose your preferred evening and time for practice.
  • Games are every Saturday morning on Oakdale fields.
  • Games are played in late August,  September and October.
  • Teams are formed shortly after registration closes. An email will be sent out to all players at that time and rosters will be public for viewing.
  • The head coach will have contact info on your team page. They will be in charge of informing you of games, practices, picture dates and any information regarding your team.
  • Teams will be created based on age. The younger children will be placed together and only play the younger age teams and the older children will also be placed together and only play the older age teams.

Registration Information

REGISTRATION IS:    CLOSED

Early registration:  May  - May  $55
Regular registration:  June - July  $65

Please register for the U7 league if your childs birthdate falls between these dates:

Fall 2017
Soccer League Player Birthdate
U7 (including U6) 8-1-10 to 7-31-12

Teams are formed after registration is closed. Late registration requests are only granted if a team space is available. That will be determined by the director.

Refunds requested after registration has closed are subject to a $15.00 charge due to fees already incurred.

Players are assigned to teams in the following manner:

  • Satisfy family relationships.
  • Satisfy player preference.
  • Assign any remaining players wherever the player fits, based on grade and team size.
  • Teams will be created based on age. The younger children will be placed together and only play the younger age teams and the older children will also be placed together and only play the older age teams.

Ideally all preferences could be satisfied. Unfortunately, this is generally impossible due to constraints such as:

  • Balancing the age mix on each team.
  • Balancing the total number of players on each team.

Please do not assume teams and friends stay together - early registration can significantly contribute to having preferences satisfied.  In any case, please encourage players to form additional friendships this fall.

Equipment

Players are responsible for their own shin guards and cleats. Please note that baseball cleats are not allowed because they have a toe cleat.  For a comparison of soccer vs baseball cleats, visit:  http://www.soccer-for-parents.com/soccer-cleats.html

OAA provides:

  • Team jersey
  • Shorts
  • Socks
  • Soccer Balls size 3

Team Volunteers

As an all volunteer organization, OAA always needs volunteers, especially coaches.

We have 3 volunteer options for your child's team:

Assistant coach:   Assisting is all coach duties. Editing your individual team page.

Team manager:    Handles most communication for the team by sending emails or posting updates with any information.  Editing your individual team page.

Please sign up to coach when you register your child and we will contact you.

Coming Soon!

COMMUNICATION

Questions, Comments or suggestions, contact the league director using the email located in the Contacts section on this page.

Each team has their own page that the volunteers will use for communication, all updates/changes and anything the team volunteers want to add. Also, email links of the team volunteers are available for any questions, comments or concerns. When team pages are made public for viewing, the volunteers should be able to help you in any way needed.
